Record No. 5

On July 30, 2010 03:04AM PDT

Now apparently the lads are back in the studio again. Surprisingly quick I might say. So I was wondering what everyone expects from this 5th output?

Personally, what I learned over the years is that they hardly sound the same on their records but every time they're still dredg, like they use different influences each time but somehow keep their own special identity in the music. That's what I expect for the next album as well. I don't wanna hear another El Cielo, or a second Pariah. I don't care if they're going to sound heavier or more thrive into pop or whatever it is, as long as they keep their own identity in it. I would prefer a concept album again cause I think they're so good at that and it gives them sth special.

If i remember correctly, they were planning on releasing a sort of B- Sides album which I would have liked to hear too (even though many b- sides already float around the net). I hope they will not use those Pariah left overs for the new album but write entirely new material.

So what's everyone's take on it? Would you like em to get even more radio friendly than with some of the Pariah songs or would you rather prefer em to go 'under the radar' in terms of public recognition?

puh....i defenitely want another record which takes my breath away like the previous ones...i don't care if it's gonna be like pariah or el cielo or whatsoever. anyway i'm sure it will be something new, because we all know how much the point on dredg is on change. indeed suprisingly quick...i really hope that we won't hear it....CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR IT! hopefully there's gonna be another tour in europe and if it will be with circa survive....man nothing more to say.

I think theyre going to stay under the "radar" unless they score some big hit, they're awesome, but always kinda under the radar, makes em better. As far as sounding like other albums, I doubt it, they're always looking for the newest sounds. Can't wait!

Dredg never, ever cease to find new ways to make the wonderful music they bring us, and they will never change that. As shitty as most mainstream music is today, it would not hurt if some of their new material receives a little bit of airplay (e.g. from college/university-based stations), to expose listeners to pure genius (IMHO), but keeping them "under the radar" is not a problem, either. Good luck, Dredg!

Since leaving Interscope I think they've had more creative freedom. I'm looking forward to more of that. I'm looking forward to more music that will inspire me to push on.

el cielo 2? lol. i know it's a great album, but think about how many sequels to great movies never should have been made... i'm sure we can expect the unexpected. pushing the envelope...

Well, I wasn't implying they should do a 'sequel' to El Cielo. I was saying that there might be people who would like see the band going back to that time in terms of musical style.

I for once, wouldn't like to see them do that as I said in my post. But I bet there's a bunch of fans who wouldn't mind another album in the vein of El Cielo.

And I agree with the overall consensus here that they will take another step forward and go into a different direction from their last record. Like they have always done so far.

There are so many great things they could do with how much they evolve between albums. I'd really be interested to hear an album from the 2010 Dredg that is intended to be in the "El Cielo style". Then again, I'd really be interested to hear what they do with an album that's totally new and in whatever creative mindset they have at that moment. You know you're a fan of a brilliant group of musicians when you're having this conversation.

What I need for sure is another Matroshka/Cartoon Show Room song. The two songs didn't sound alike in any significant way, but were both a little more "low key" but extremely powerful and moving, and I want to hear what they do in that style on the next album.

hmm, seeing the news on the front page I somehow doubt it's gonna be an acoustic album. :)

Why do you doubt it? Although I do have doubts since they are tapping a hip hop producer for the album.
I can't believe this band is not mainstream...but then again I'm glad they are not.

they are working with dan the automater on this new album. I am pretty sure they self produced Pariah...which is good but it could have been better if was more focused IMO.

So I am hoping for more full tracks, less interlude type stuff. Hopefully a full studio version of Ornament that they played at housing works. That song is too good to put on a B-sides album.

I think there will be more electronic percussion sounds and less songs with just the standard guitar, bass, drum, vocals. Not that anything dredg has done recently is "standard".

all I know for sure is I am seeing them on Oct 22nd and the new album will be really good.

But what i WANT is anything that's not over-analyzed. Seriously, for real.
